Five Things We Have Been Doing In COVID World.

By Erica and Karen

We read obsessively about the progress of the virus—but we’re finding it hard to make a real plan. So we are:

  1. Amusing ourselves looking for hand sanitizer—store shelves look as if they were hit by a hurricane. We refuse to pay the prices on Amazon.

  2. Worrying about our children and telling them to stop worrying about us.

  3. Wondering just how crazy we will go if we are required to self-quarantine.

  4. Making sure we have enough wine in the house.

  5. Reading and streaming to divert our minds from COVID-19 and the governmental response. We are reading:

  • The Fifth Risk, Michael Lewis. Excellent book—we had no idea what fascinating things some of our federal agencies do—but it did not improve our CoVID-19 outlook.

  • No Stopping Us Now, Gail Collins. All about all of us and how great we are. Perfect!

  • The Splendid and The Vile, Erik Larson. We read all of Larsen’s books, and Churchill is a wonderful subject.

We are streaming:

  • Homeland. Of course. Is it really the last season? What is Carrie going to do with herself? A global virus challenge?

  • Shetland. As moodily atmospheric as can be, though sometimes the accents defeat us.

  • Mandalorian. Yes, of course we already saw the first season, but that was before CoVID-19. Baby Yoda is just who we need now.
