What Are You Looking For In A Date?

By Erica and Karen

Are you over 65 and dating? If so, we would love to hear from you.

We are not dating, since we are happily married, but we know people who are—very carefully, of course, in light of coronavirus risks. Given the characteristics of our cohort, it seems likely many of us will think about it at some point. We became curious about how women like us might approach an activity most of us have not practiced for a long time.

Some women (and men) we know got started by using dating websites, including these:

  • Silver Singles. For over 50 dating, and with a website full of useful information like this: though you may be the most irresistibly charming and aesthetically immaculate individual in your particular hemisphere, this fact becomes irrelevant if your online profile looks like a missing cat poster.

  • Our Time, for people seeking people over 50.

  • EHarmony, which seems to have no age limitations.

  • Date My Age made us chuckle. It describes itself as enabling active senior dating for mature singles, and caters to people between 35 and 55!

Let us know if you have others.

We are also really interested in what you are looking for in a date. Maybe, these days, just a Zoom conversation to get to know someone online before you take the risk of an actual in person meeting. If you do take the next step, maybe just a good meal with a fun companion. But if you are looking for something longer term, what would it be?

  • Are you mostly looking for romance, or for companionship?

  • How have your romantic partner objectives changed since you were 18?

  • Were you married, and do you want to get married again?

  • Do you have children, and what do they think about you getting married?

  • Have you been single all your life and now you want to see what marriage is all about?

  • Are you looking for a long term relationship that does not include marriage?

  • Maybe you are looking for a fun fling, perhaps with a partner who would travel with you to glamorous locales, the instant we can do that again?

  • Maybe your target is someone who can cook really well, or who loves ballet, or is a great lawyer? (We threw the last one in for obvious reasons.)

  • Is this all about the pandemic—were you looking for a puppy but could not find one, so you need a substitute?

Lat us know what’s going on!
